Historic Preservation Inspections
Welch Engineering performs historic preservation inspections to help preservationist identify areas of historic structures that are failing, that need repair/replacement and provides recommendations to ensure the structure will be preserved.
The inspection process is very similar to a typical real estate inspection, except for the experienced needed by the inspector. Glenn has been in the construction/repair business for over 50 years, which includes the construction and repair of log buildings.
Examples of historic structures that have been completed include the “House O’ Dreams” built for Martha Berry by the students of Berry College in 1926 and the Bartow County log cabin of author Corra Harris. The cabin was built about 1830 by a Cherokee chieftain named Pine Log and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The cabin along with 56 acres was donated to the University of Georgia for the use of Kennesaw State University.
